If there is ever a spice that has suddenly emerged on every foodie's lips, it is Dukkah. This spice, of Egyptian origin, is a mix of herbs, spices and nuts and can be used in so many ways. 

Like Za'atar, Dukkah can be used as a dip or topping with fresh bread and olive oil. It can also be used sprinkled over steamed vegetables, stirred through homemade hummus or crusted over meat and seafood. 

Indeed, we had quite the row in the Spice Quarter kitchen when we were developing the ideal recipe for this spice blend. The bowl of freshly blended Dukkah in front of us smelled so inviting that we couldn't wait to test it out!

But what recipe should we use? We had so many brilliant ideas that it was seriously difficult to choose one!

Spice Quarter is all about making delicious meals with simple pantry ingredients. With this in mind, we decided to develop a new recipe using Dukkah that only utilised what we already had in our pantry. 

Well, it wasn't much! All we had in the refrigerator was a cauliflower and a lime. 

But never fear, at Spice Quarter we love a challenge and we especially love it if it involves food! This is a recipe shows that you only need a few ingredients to make a delicious meal and a nearly-empty pantry is no barrier when you have a delicious blend on hand like our Dukkah!

So that is how this recipe, Dukkah Cauliflower Steak was born. We hope you like it, let us know what you think in the comments


  • 1 medium cauliflower
  • 5g of Dukkah Spice Blend per steak
  • 1 tbs olive oil
  • salt and pepper
  • lime wedge



Spice Quarter Dukkah Caulifower Steak Recipe

  • Trim the cauliflower and cut into approximately 1/2 inch thick steaks

  • Take two steaks and drizzle olive oil on both sides

  • Sprinkle the Dukkah Spice Blend on both sides
  • Cook it in the oven at 200C (390F) for 15* minutes or until golden
  • Season with salt and pepper

  • Serve with a lime wedge and yoghurt sprinkled with some Dukkah Spice Blend
